Nagasaki Koyotei

The shuttles to and from Nagasaki station made getting there convenient, and the service and food were just as impressive as the views from both bathing areas. On our first trip to Nagasaki, the steep, narrow winding road up to the ryokan was quite an adventure. The views at the top made it completely worthwhile.

The room was roomy and had a gorgeous view, and the staff were kind and accommodating. We also really enjoyed the food and the two onsens. In the three nights my friend and I stayed, we never saw anyone else using them. As two scrawny foreign backpackers, we felt a little out of place in this quiet ryokan. It might suit a couple better.

We went for one night to get the full, traditional Japanese ryokan experience. The apartments were spacious and very good, and the staff seemed exceptionally well trained. Dinner and breakfast were handled in a personal, well-organized way. Both onsens are worth trying. The hotel sits 170 meters above Nagasaki, with a breathtaking city view, and a shuttle runs to and from Nagasaki Station.

We'd just left and were already thinking about coming back. This was our first time in Nagasaki, and we wanted it to feel special, so we stayed at Koyotei without knowing quite what to expect. The room was enormous and well appointed, the food was delicious, and the service was gracious. The view really is one of the best in Nagasaki, and among the best we've seen anywhere.
