Good.
Poor.
I booked through Rakuten Travel while looking at places near Nagoya Station. Business Hotel Oise, Business Hotel Daikichi and Business Taiko came up as the three cheapest. They're all much the same, so you can try whichever catches your eye. Oise is the furthest from the station and a little hard to find, but it's walkable unless you're carrying a lot of luggage. The main draw of all three is getting a private room at low cost, even though the toilets and showers are shared. The rooms are separated by walls but close together, so you can hear snoring and conversations. Earplugs or earphones are a good idea. The only amenities provided were toothbrushes and toothpaste. Bring towels and pajamas if you need them. Hair dryers can be rented. Rooms have air conditioning, a TV, refrigerator and Wi-Fi, with the password posted at the front desk. The air conditioning is centrally controlled, so you can't set an exact temperature. If I remember correctly, Business Hotel Daikichi and Business Taiko only had showers, while Business Hotel Oise has a bathtub on the first floor and a shower on the second. The tub is about the size of one at home. You can soak in hot water, though some people may not feel comfortable using it after a stranger. In that case, the shower may be a safer choice. There are set hours for bathing. Nagoya Station is a bit of a walk, but it's manageable, and there's a public bath nearby. There's no curfew after check-in, same as at the other two. This place is for sleeping in a private room cheaply, so don't expect anything beyond that. If you want hospitality and facilities, pay more for a decent hotel. I gave Business Hotel Daikichi and Business Taiko five stars because they were cheap and had private rooms, and Business Hotel Oise has those same qualities, so it gets five stars from me too. I hope it stays among the three cheapest results for hotels around Nagoya Station on Rakuten Travel.
The room had a cigarette smell. Check-in was at 4pm, and when I tried at 3:50pm, the man at reception made a sarcastic comment. I started noting the facility rules on my phone, but he told me not to because they were written on the wall. I should've waited until just before check-in time and kept my notes out of his sight. For the price, I felt safer here than in a dorm, since I could keep my valuables in the room instead of a locker. The private room, futon and room size were pretty good, and I liked being able to lock the door.
