Chisun Inn Nagoya

The breakfast selection earned the one star, but it still didn’t make the price feel worthwhile. The rates are hard to justify, even with the station nearby. The building is old, though its circular design, hallways, and matching rooms must have been interesting when it was new. The rooms still work, but they’re very worn and cramped. My colleague from the USA couldn’t close the bathroom door in his single room because it hit his knees. The cost was so high that if it had been half or even two-thirds as much, we might have laughed it off as a glimpse of old Japanese business hotels, and I probably wouldn’t have complained. At minimum, the hotel should warn guests who are around 5’6” or taller.

I paid about ¥8000 a night for a single room through Agoda. You can leave luggage before check-in or after checkout, provided there’s space in storage. The breakfast buffet costs ¥1375 per person and runs from 6:30 to 9am. Amenities like cotton buds, hair caps, and earphones are available in the lobby, and each floor has a hot water and tea dispenser plus a vending machine. There’s a convenience store across the road and a restaurant that stays open very late. Nagoya Station is about a five-minute walk away. The room had air conditioning, a TV, mini fridge, toiletries, hair dryer, and hangers. I booked a non-smoking room, but it initially smelled a bit musty, like it may once have been a smoking room. The smell had gone when I returned, and there was room spray too.

The rooms are small, and Chisun smelled worse than any hotel I’ve stayed in. Cigarette odor was everywhere and gave me a headache.

It’s close to Nagoya Station, which is a plus, and the staff were friendly. The room is narrow, but it’s okay.
