It’s a good place for the price, and the host was friendly and spoke good English. The area felt like a breath of fresh air after crowded Nagoya Station, with a lovely park about a 15-20 minute walk away. Sounds carry easily in these houses, so earplugs may help if other guests are inconsiderate. My main complaints were the outdoor toilet, which isn’t ideal in spring or summer because of the insects, and the small shower. I’m a big person and kept bumping my head on the light.

The owners were warm and welcoming, and we enjoyed a tasty lunch when we stopped by, though we didn’t stay overnight. The vegetables were fresh from a nearby farm that doesn’t use hormones or chemicals. We were told a night costs ¥3000 ($30), which is cheap for Japan. I’d definitely recommend staying here if you’re in Arimatsu.

The tatami floor had a smell and feel I really liked, and the building has that traditional Japanese style. Staff were helpful and English was available. Guests couldn’t use the kitchen, but I only needed the microwave, so that was fine.

This is a simple, peaceful and comfortable guesthouse a little outside the main city. The hosts are incredibly nice and speak Japanese, English and Mandarin. It’s a traditional Japanese house, with sleeping mats.
