This was an extremely disappointing stay, the worst hotel experience I've had in Japan. We booked through Booking.com for a family trip, with a triple room for my parents and young son and a double for my husband and me. Check-in should have been straightforward, but the ordeal lasted over an hour and left my child and elderly parents exhausted and upset. The staff immediately said our prepayment covered only two adults total and blamed Booking.com for the mix-up. They demanded about $300 more on the spot for the extra guests. I paid because I wanted to avoid further trouble, though it seemed like poor communication between the hotel and the booking platform. I had also selected and paid for a breakfast-inclusive rate, as shown in my Booking.com confirmation email, but the staff denied breakfast was included and wouldn't honor it. There was no apology or compromise. The room quality was a letdown too. The design was poor, the beds uncomfortable, the dryer was barely functional and the worst I've used in Japan, and the amenities were subpar. Visible dust covered the towel rails and other surfaces. I've stayed at least 15 hotels in different Japanese cities over five visits, and this was by far the worst service and quality I've encountered. The staff were dismissive and unhelpful throughout. It's a shame the location in Otaru could have been great. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, especially families. Avoid it if you want a reliable, comfortable, fairly priced stay in Japan.

We loved the restaurant, both for its distinctive design and for the breakfast spread. There was plenty to choose from, including Japanese and Western options, churros, and mini chirashi sushi. When the chef and staff heard it was our anniversary, they made us an adorable fruit bear. Shinya, the young man presenting the music boxes, was professional and explained the history of the buildings and music boxes made in Germany and USA for more than 100 years. The front desk, restaurant, and bar staff were all friendly and attentive. Laundry costs ¥300 for 30 minutes, and the dryer is ¥100, which was really convenient. The cozy hotel is about a 10-minute walk from Otaru station and beautiful Canel. We had a wonderful time at Omo5. Thanks to the whole team, highly recommend!

The staff were wonderful, polite, professional, and always smiling. We'd felt during this trip that Japanese staff in general were getting a bit cold toward tourists, so we appreciated how warm everyone here was. Music box night had a romantic dinner feel and was great, but the lamp oil smell was so strong it gave me a headache and I couldn't stay long, even though I'd wanted to support the hotel and its friendly staff by dining there. The room had lovely views of the mountainous area, comfortable bed and pillows, warm colors, and a nice, functional design. There was plenty of surface space for our things, plus room for a sofa. It's a cute boutique hotel with nice bonus facilities, though we didn't get the bathtub room because they were fully booked. Too bad there's no free coffee, or even instant coffee, just tea, and no onsen. Thank you!

There are small restaurants and bars nearby, and the hotel is also close to the Brewery and the Canals. The rooms were spacious, bigger than most hotel rooms in Japan. Breakfast on the third floor was excellent. In winter, there's a drying room for boots and ski gear, and you can wax your board or skis there too if needed.

The room was clean and close to a Family Mart convenience store, with tourist attractions a short distance away. Parking costs 1000 yen for hotel guests. The hotel also promotes sustainability.
