Ms IWANO at the front desk was wonderful. My train from Nagoya to Takayama, scheduled for 1812 hours on 3/20/2026, was canceled without notice. She helped me contact Japan Railway to find out why, and also helped me cancel my reservation at another hotel in Takayama for 3/20/2026. Greatest hotel employee!
The food is why I gave it 5. I stayed for 3 days, and it was different each day. Simple Japanese food, but that's all I need.
I found the room very comfortable, and at 7215 Yen per night for a double bed, the price seemed very reasonable. It was clean and had the facilities I needed: a TV, kettle, cups, bath, safe, aircon, and a card-operated front door. The hotel is about 150 metres from the West exit of Nagoya Station. There's a Family Mart about 210 metres to the south-west, and a 7-Eleven nearby too, though I didn't use it. I'd recommend the hotel.
The hotel serves Japanese breakfast, while the new Nagoya Toyoko inn, just a 2-minute walk away, has a western breakfast. It's in a great spot within walking distance of NAGOYA station for JR subway or railway. Local restaurants are all around, including some open 24 hours, and convenience stores are nearby.
My stay was generally fine, but plan carefully if you want to leave luggage here for a few days while taking side trips. This toyoko inn doesn't offer luggage storage, so you'll need to get to the jr nagoya station in the morning and look for lockers, especially if you have large bags. Check with reception ahead of time, or you might be caught off guard.
