Don't EVER use the car rental service! I'm a long-term resident and have a Japanese driving license, but they told me, "we only rent to Japanese". I went all the way to collect the car before learning this, with no contact or explanation beforehand. It was a total waste of time. They were rude and unhelpful, and clearly don't like serving anyone who "is not Japanese".

A budget hotel with a decent, fairly spacious room by Japanese standards. The room was clean and comfortable, but the place is a little run down. The corridors especially could use attention, with old, somewhat stained carpets.

We ended up here as a last resort at 11:30pm after the hostel we'd booked closed without waiting for us as arranged. It's not in the best area, the red light district, but at least we had somewhere to sleep when we had nowhere else to go. The staff were very friendly.
