The bath was pleasant, though I wished it got hotter. Breakfast was delicious and included, and the staff were kind and helpful. They even sent my luggage on to my next stop on the Nakasendo. It is a long way from the station, but getting around gave me a chance to see more of the area.
I don't think these bath hours are okay. Men can use the onsen until after midnight and from 6 in the morning, while women's hours end at 8 pm and don't start until 8 am. Who wants to bathe by 8? I'd like to relax after dinner and before bed, not beforehand. Nobody goes to sleep at 9.
The buses only come about once an hour, so this isn't the most convenient spot for tourists. Taxis are reasonably priced, though, and work well for getting between the hotel and the station.
The Onsen was nice, and the place felt like a great way to experience a quieter, rural side of Japan. It's peaceful with lovely views over town, and you can find somewhere to eat within a minute. The price was good, with breakfast included, clean and pleasant rooms, and friendly service. Buses C and K run from the station, but you need cash. For people walking the Old Nakasendo, they can arrange luggage forwarding, though it won't arrive the same day.
I arrived late at night and they were still glad to help. I'd definitely stay here again if I get the chance.
