Sky Hotel Namerikawa

That mountain-facing room had a gorgeous view, and the hotel’s location made exploring by train easy since it’s right by the station. We picked it for the firefly squid boat tour in April 2025, as it was the only hotel within walking distance of the dock. The nearby Hotaruika Museum was another big plus. This review is very late, but I still can’t stop thinking about the trip. The building is a little older, but the price and location made for a fantastic stay. The older man and woman who mainly handled both the front desk and restaurant were so kind and patient while we struggled with our limited Japanese and Google Translate. They were friendly each time we came and went, and it felt like coming home. Breakfast was a simple set meal, but delicious, with some items changing each morning for a bit of variety. The restaurant also had a great espresso machine and unlimited coffee. As first-time visitors to Japan, it was a lovely introduction to a traditional meal. My one real complaint was the very hard bed, but we managed. If you’re booking during firefly tour season, reserve as soon as bookings open. I waited a couple of days too long, and only the smallest room was left.

An older hotel, clean enough, and I had no complaints.

Clean and comfortable, with a nice breakfast. It’s very close to the beach and the firefly squid museum, where you can take a tour to see the catch in spring.

I was glad they could fit in my last-minute booking and give me a room facing the station. Watching the sun come up over the mountain in front of me was lovely. At night, the freight trains and railroad crossings were audible, which made it feel like being on a night train. There was also a delicious yakitori place nearby called Chonta-san.
