Okudaya

The room had just been renovated, with nice furnishings and quality amenities, but there was no ocean view, which felt like a missed opportunity in Wakura. Parking was difficult, too. We ordered the crab and blackthroat seaperch course, but the crab was small, hard to eat, and tasteless. The hot spring bath has an electric rotating motor. I hadn't seen a 25,000 yen per person plan at a guesthouse before. Kagaya would be the better choice.

I was glad I booked this place, even though there were other inns to choose from. The landlady was very kind, and the room I got in May 2022 was clean and pleasant, despite my low expectations after reading the reviews. The hot springs on the premises seemed unchanged from before, and you can bathe in the spring water whenever you like. If I get the chance to return, I'll stay here again.

There are liquor stores, sushi places, yakiniku restaurants, and izakayas within walking distance, which is handy. The bath is a high-temperature spring, so you adjust it by switching the air tap at the entrance on and off. It's completely natural spring water with no added water, and unlike at larger inns, it isn't disinfected with chlorine. Remember it's a long-established minshuku and I think you'll be satisfied with your stay.

The breakfast was generous and satisfying, and at this low price you can enjoy Wakura Onsen at any hour. The building is old and the rooms seem to have been divided up later, but if the hot springs are your main reason for coming, it's great. The bath is small, yet open 24 hours, and if you pick the right time you might have it to yourself. The 7-Eleven is a little far off, so I'd buy drinks ahead of time.
