We came to experience life at this Gasso minsu, and it was great. The hosts looked after us well and told us about the village. It was cold at night, but they gave us hot water bags that kept us warm. I do wonder whether the village will still be here once the current era ends, since there’s no renewal. 😢 Recommended for anyone who wants to take home a piece of history. 👍

Looking back, our two nights here were the highlight of a three-week trip to Japan. We wanted to see a bit of the countryside beyond the big cities, and it was amazing. The hosts welcomed us warmly, and the meals were overwhelmingly delicious. The beds were cozy, too. Our host took time to sit with us and talk about the village and their own experiences. I absolutely recommend staying with Yoshomira if you’re interested in Japan’s culture.

Kuni-San and his family made us feel at home without hovering over us. There was a language barrier, but we managed to communicate and learn about the region and its traditional folk culture. Staying overnight with local hosts in their historic family home in Ainokura let us experience the quiet, peaceful culture of this Gassho world heritage village. What an incredible homestay, and a one of a kind stay at Yomoshiro in cozy Ainokura. They prepared a traditional vegan dinner and vegetarian breakfast for us. They can accommodate vegetarians, but you need to give advance notice. The rooms have futon mats, and the bathroom facilities are shared. Thanks for the hospitality!

The evening meal was intimate and lovely. The owner sat with the guests, talking about the area, the local customs and culture, and where they grew or gathered all the food in the meal. He even showed us how to play some local music, which was great fun. Yomoshiro was the best part of my holiday in Japan. The owner and his son were lovely, and the room was comfortable and cozy. If you want to stay in a traditional house hosted by some of the kindest people I’ve met, I’d highly recommend it.

Hello, we’re hoping to book a room, but we don’t have a phone. Is there another way we can get in touch?
