Johnny made this stay for us. He welcomed us warmly, helped us feel at home, and even went out of his way to find us another place to stay elsewhere on Naoshima. The rooms were cozy and the atmosphere was peaceful. We left with a really special impression of Bamboo Village, and I’d happily recommend it.

We had an en suite room that was clean and comfortable. It’s definitely a hostel, as others have said, but it’s nicely furnished and very well looked after. The host was incredibly kind and helpful, explaining things and helping us book restaurants. We were close to the art houses, and the hill made for good exercise for my heart. It was quiet at the end of October. There’s a good restaurant nearby, too. Highly recommended if you’re happy with hostel accommodation.

If you enjoy sharing spaces and being around other guests, you may really like this place. It has a lovely outlook, a good location if you don’t mind walking up a hill, and excellent, personal service. I had a room with its own bathroom. But it’s basically a share house, so think about privacy and noise before booking. A group of guests were noisy, though they were nice people. Since every guest room opens onto the shared sitting, kitchen, or bathroom areas, you can hear people gathering there. My door opened straight onto the kitchen, which made it especially loud. The beds squeaked, and there wasn’t a cotton bottom sheet.

Finding the place takes a little attention: at the parking lot, turn right and follow the small GREEN signs. They’re there, even if you don’t spot them right away. We’ve travelled all over Europe, and this was one of the best guesthouses we’ve stayed in. The shower, bed, and shared areas were all excellent and very clean. The hosts were welcoming and polite, and we had a wonderful stay. I’d come back.

The location is great and the view is lovely, though getting your luggage up the hill takes some effort. The interior is friendly and hip. This feels more like a hostel or AirBnB than a hotel, with a younger crowd staying on artsy Naoshima. Our family, ages 45 to 70, shared a room and felt a little out of place, especially using the showers and bathrooms alongside young students.
