The noise carries through the wall, so I could hear the person next door snoring. The room fans were really dirty, and there was lots of dust by the window right beside the bed and pillows. The bed wasn't clean either, especially the pillows, which smelled like someone else's head.
There's no staff on site, but we felt well looked after throughout our stay. The room was comfortable and had everything we needed for a short visit. It's a good base for exploring Nara, about a 15-minute walk from the park and five to ten minutes from the train and bus station, city center, restaurants, cafes, and supermarkets.
My husband and I stayed here for a week in Nara, and the apartment worked well for us. The shower and toilet were excellent, but the futons were very thin and the towels very small. It's in a great spot on a quiet street, just around the corner from downtown Nara. Both train stops, the park, pond, and laundromat are within walking distance.
The luggage issue threw off my plans. The listing said they offered luggage storage, but as soon as I booked, I got an email saying they wouldn't keep our bags. I had to spend extra time and money finding somewhere else to store them. The online information felt misleading.
The rules were sent by email ahead of time and were also posted in the room. There isn't a reception desk, but they provide locks so you can secure your luggage. Everything was neat and clean, and the homestay felt very professional. Staying in Nara made for a more relaxed holiday.
