Guest House Oku

The host is so lovely and has great, personal suggestions for places to eat and things to see. She pointed us toward some delicious kuzumochi at a beautiful sweets restaurant. Everything, from the beds to the bathroom and shower, was clean and comfortable. If you’re going to Nara and want to feel like you’re coming back to a welcoming home, stay here. Thank you!

Guest House Oku felt comfortable and much more like someone’s home than a typical hostel. I stayed for three days and really liked its warm, homey atmosphere. Yoko-san, the owner, took great care of guests, even helping with laundry and sharing homemade chocolate cake and bread. As a European, that was a lovely surprise and reminded me of home. There’s a knitting class during the day, and lots of Yoko-san’s friends stop by, which gives the place a friendly community feel. It’s a good spot to slow down and connect with people. If you want somewhere cozy and personal while visiting Nara, I’d recommend Guest House Oku. Thanks again, Yoko-san!

The area is quiet, and my room was really cozy. Yoko, the owner, is so sweet and makes an effort to introduce you to the other travelers so you can have a good time. She also plays Japanese instruments beautifully. I love this place and can’t recommend it enough.

This little guest house run by Yoko san gave us an experience we’ll never forget. She was so kind and spoke English well. She played the Shamisen beautifully for us and even taught me the basics. We made friends there too. We fell in love with the place, and if we get the chance to return, guest house Oku will always be my choice.
