The Japanese style rooms were lovely, and the hosts were warm and welcoming. There is an unusual 11 pm curfew, though it apparently isn’t strictly enforced.

We loved this cozy hotel. The room was spacious, the staff were friendly, and the location was perfect. Every little detail was lovely. Breakfast was also good and reasonably priced, so I’d recommend it.
The hotel is old and it shows, but the location is really, really good. Deer roam right outside the door, and the scenery is beautiful. It’s also cheap, and you can leave your luggage there early if needed. They barely speak English, so come a little prepared if you’re a foreigner, though it worked out perfectly fine for us. Since it’s on a small street, there’s less noise than at hotels farther into the central town.
The rooms were clean, and the location is good, with plenty of deer near Nara Park. There’s a TV, but I couldn’t get terrestrial broadcasts. It seems you can use YouTube, Netflix and other services by signing into your own account. There’s no refrigerator in the room, just one shared fridge, which could be a bit inconvenient in summer.
Koton is close to Nara Park and reasonably priced, so it feels like a great deal. The owner is very friendly, and I’d love to return. It’s a good place for families coming to see the deer, which sometimes come right up to the front of the inn. Honestly, I’d almost like to keep this place a secret. If you want to visit Nara Park without watching the time, Koton is a good choice.
