Ryokan Wakamatsu Honten

The view from the window was beautiful in the morning, and I enjoyed strolling around town. The room was clean, spacious, and warm, with a comfortable futon and pillow. I also liked the shared bath. After a long day of travel, I arrived late to find dinner ready for me at check-in, such a lovely welcome. After checkout, the front desk let me leave my luggage and helped call a cab to take it to the train station. I really appreciated that.

This little ryokan was so lovely that we changed our plans to fit in another night on our way out of Japan. The room was beautiful, the onsen was lovely, and the Japanese breakfast was the best we had in Japan by far, better than any other breakfast too. We'd first stayed here on our arrival night so we wouldn't have to take a long train ride after flying. That led us to discover Narita, a special town that's wonderful to wander around for a day. I'd happily stay here again next time I'm in Japan.

We took a taxi and were there in 20 minutes. The staff worked around our dinner time, but be sure to tell them when you're arriving at the airport. The food was really good, and in the morning it was fun to hear the Buddhist monks chanting and ringing the bells. A great place to stay, especially for your first night in Japan.

It's busy outside, but step into the ryokan and it feels peaceful. The rooms are roomy, the futons comfortable, and the comforter warm and cozy. Breakfast was spectacular, so remember to order it or dinner before your stay. A lovely place to start or finish a trip to Japan, about a 15-minute walk through Narita City from Naritasan Shinshoji Temple. Shops and restaurants are just a few minutes away.
