The private bath with Helstone barley stone inside, supplied with water from Nasu Kogen hot springs, was especially warm and relaxing. The hot springs are available 24 hours, with a board by the lobby where you can put a magnet with your room number next to a time you want. You can also bathe whenever the room is open. The hot springs are the only 24-hour option, while the open-air bath is available once per room for 50 minutes on the day of your stay. The new open-air bath isn't a hot spring, but it's roomy, and its waiting room is about eight tatami mats. There was also a cute path next door called "Forest Maple Garden" that we enjoyed on a morning walk. The building has the exterior walls and floors of an old castle moved from the Cotswolds in England. Apparently it was used for a catalog photo for British brand Laura Ashley. The rooms are spacious and dressed in Laura Ashley fabrics, with elegant, authentic British furniture. Background music was nice, and a soft scent wafted from the lobby into the room. We had a two-board dinner, a full French course, and for the low price the quality was outstanding, especially the freshly baked bread. Breakfast was delicious too, with what may have been egg quiche, freshly baked croissants, and rye bread. We had a very relaxed time. Dinner starts at 6:30 and runs just under two hours, so it's not a good fit if you're in a hurry. There's no lock on the room's toilet/bathroom door. Wi-Fi was available. For the value in Nasu Highlands, we'll definitely return.
We went for a quiet, relaxing trip and were very happy with our stay. My husband and I found the hotel peaceful, with a lovely European feel in both the exterior and rooms, and the staff were very friendly. Dinner and breakfast were both delicious, especially the bread, which we liked so much we wanted to take some home.
The building's atmosphere and the food were really nice, and it could be pleasant to have this sort of stay once in a while. The semi-open-air bath was unfortunately out of order because of the neighbors.
We had the bath to ourselves, so we could unwind without worrying about anyone seeing us. There was a rock bath as well as a cypress one, and the cypress bath had a large jacuzzi at the back. It felt open and relaxing. We came here for the first time to celebrate our wedding anniversary, and loved the room's atmosphere, food, and wine. ✨
The meals were both delicious. Dinner began at 6:30 PM and we were done by 7:30, while breakfast ran from 8 to 8:30. The dining room was especially warm in the morning, so they must have heated it early. The owner serves everything alone, so timing probably depends on how many guests are staying, though a French course isn't likely to be a quick meal anyway. The homemade bread was as good as people say, and my mother thought the dinner coffee was incredibly good. My mother and I thought the yellow British-style building was very cute. The parking area fits a few cars, but there's a rough flight of steps from it, a two or three minute walk that was manageable for us. The room bathroom smelled a little musty. We only opened its door when using the toilet, and it wasn't bad enough to keep us from sleeping. There was air freshener spray. The room has a clawfoot tub, but the private bath is definitely worth using. At 160 cm, I could stretch my legs out fully with room to spare. The so-called open-air bath is more like a jacuzzi in a sunroom, not completely outdoors. It's relaxing and keeps insects out. The area seemed like a converted guest room, with a sofa and little lounge feel. You could relax so much you miss your booking time. Shampoo, conditioner, and body and face shaving soap are POLA, a nice touch. For just over 10,000 yen, I thought it was amazing. I wouldn't recommend it to families with children, but if you want a genuinely relaxing time, this is the place. Minamigaoka Farm and Penny Lane were nearby. The smoking area is in the outdoor corridor. Wi-Fi was malfunctioning during our visit, though it seems to usually be available. My pocket Wi-Fi had no signal either.
