I've had enough of this pension. I went back and forth with the inn about what happened, but we never reached an agreement. I'm posting because I just can't accept how it was handled. When we checked out, the host argued in front of our child that there would be no refund. He said a guest on the floor below had complained our family was too noisy and couldn't sleep, and that the inn had paid them a nuisance fee. He also said we had originally booked as four adults, so there was no reason to refund us. My child had been excited about staying there and did make a lot of noise, but was tired from playing and went to bed after 8 PM. I asked whether the downstairs guest could really have been unable to sleep when my child slept through until around 7 AM. The host just replied, "I don't know." The booking was for two adults and two children, as the photo shows, and I paid about 40,000 yen upfront by credit card through Agoda for one night, two days. At check-in, they said the reservation listed four adults. I explained that was a mistake and that the children were 6 and 1. The innkeeper asked if we could have meals for three, with a light meal for one child, and I agreed. He then offered to refund the difference in cash, which I appreciated at the time. But they only served three meals, and our youngest got a coffee cup saucer instead of a plate, no drink, and not even a cup. I didn't complain then, since they were offering the refund and I figured there wasn't much I could do. But if we'd only been given three meals, why order four? The host had offered the refund, and even after we agreed to something different from the original booking, they still refused to pay it. It's disappointing to have to deal with this on a trip.

The food was delicious, but there were problems everywhere else. There were lots of bugs, including a dead hornet in the bathroom, and the whole place smelled moldy. The bathroom was dirty and cramped. Walls were thin, there was no air conditioning, and the futon and towels felt damp. The hair dryer was weak, and there was only one. There was no signal or Wi-Fi at all, so I couldn't use my phone to look things up. The place is far from the main area, with no convenience store nearby, and there were no amenities. The owner was very rude. Apparently, infants and children aren't allowed.

I mentioned in my reservation notes that I don't eat fish, but they served fish anyway. The room was tiny, with only a bed and TV, and the futon felt a bit damp, which was uncomfortable. Wi-Fi was supposedly free, but it barely worked at all. The toilet was worse than the public park restrooms, with no flush button, and the lock on the private room was worn out and broken. This was my first pension stay during a recent trip to Nasu, and it made me feel like I never want to stay at one again.

Set in a quiet part of the Nasu villa area, this stylish pension is run by a married couple. The shared toilets and sinks were easy to use, and I enjoyed a leisurely bath. You can bathe in the morning too. The food was delicious. There's lots of nature around, so a walk while listening to wild birds and looking up at the stars at night is a nice idea.

I stayed there back in 1997 after calling from a guidebook. I needed somewhere to sleep at short notice and hadn't made a reservation. They were fully booked, but kindly found me a small room anyway. I was rushed because of my next appointment, so I couldn't remember the place or its name afterward. While cleaning the house recently, I found the old receipt and realized where I'd stayed. Even though I asked at the last minute, they served me the same meal as everyone else, and I remember it being delicious. I also remember using the large family bath. I think the price is still the same as it was then. My eldest son, who stayed with me on that trip, has his driver's license now, and we'd like to go back.
