We stayed in one of the cottage's four second-floor rooms. It had no dog run or hot spring, but being a regular room instead of a maisonette was convenient. The first floor would have been perfect. Shampoo and the other amenities smelled nice, and the room wear was comfortable. The outdoor dog run apparently can't be used in the rain, though the cottage room is enough for small dogs. It was a comfortable highland inn, and I'd like to visit again. A few dog treats like the usual Japanese inn snacks would have been nice in the room. It would be perfect if they added a fully indoor dog run on the property.
Even though it was off-season, we stayed the night and toured the facility. The rooms were spacious and fully equipped, and the food was delicious. Breakfast buffet was top-notch. They have an indoor dog run, and we saw dogs enjoying the snow on the promenade, so it seems like there's something to enjoy in every season. They're also working with local events, so you could probably stay a few nights and explore the area.
I came back because the dinner was so good last year, and booked the same type of room. This time the room was dirty, smelled really bad, and had mold. The bathroom was especially bad, so I couldn't really enjoy the hot spring bath. Dog-friendly inns often have food that doesn't meet my expectations, but this place's dinner was delicious enough to bring me back. The staff aren't especially friendly, but they do provide good service. It's a shame when the room is dirty. They clean the rooms thoroughly, but... There's no lobby-like space at the front desk either, so it's best to eat just before check-in.
The breakfast buffet was delicious, and the staff were really kind. I'd like to go again. Getting around with our large, bedridden dog in a cart was the hard part. There were narrow staircases along many of the routes, and we ended up stuck in front of stairs without knowing how to reach our room. We walked around until we found a way to move the cart. It would help to mark stair-free routes on the map or put ramps beside the stairs.
