Nichinan Kaigan Nango Prince Hotel

My girlfriend spotted this nice ocean-view hotel while we were in Miyazaki, and I booked it without thinking, since we had no plans to stay overnight in Miyazaki and were going back to Kagoshima instead. The staff were really nice and professional, and the hotel was clean and tidy. The washrooms could use a bit of maintenance, but otherwise everything was great for the price. I’d definitely recommend this nice hotel. Thank you :)

All the rooms have a great ocean view, and the staff and service are what make this place stand out. It’s a little out of the way, but if you want somewhere quiet to relax and stay, this is the place.

The location is so good, and the room was spacious and nice, with a beautiful view. But the beach had a lot of rubbish, and our little balcony was rusty and uninviting. The outdoor pool’s deck paint was chipping, so it looked like it needed maintenance. They could do more upkeep to show what the place could be. We added breakfast on the day we checked in. The clerk said it was ¥1700 per person, ¥3400 for the two of us, and wrote that down on paper to explain. I tried to pay then, but was told to pay at checkout. At checkout, we were charged ¥5400, with the clerk saying it was ¥2700 per person. Breakfast was just okay and didn’t have enough variety to be worth that much, so I was even more disappointed and upset at paying more than I expected. I decided to cut my losses and leave this review.

I stopped by today to ask if non-guests could use the onsen. The old man at Reception was rude, with no greeting, just “Yes!” I showed him my translation asking whether there was a family or private bathroom, and he only said “No!” and walked off without explaining anything. We found a much nicer one farther north, where they weren’t biased against Westerners. It didn’t bother me too much, since in three visits to Japan we’ve mostly found people very kind. But Google Maps lists this place as an onsen, and when you’re travelling in a campervan, you often rely on places like that to get clean every day. Money wasn’t an issue, so I could only put the treatment down to racism.
