I come back every year, and I do a bit of surfing. For people arriving by car with their dogs, I think it’s a great spot. Abutsu has plenty of good places to eat, and the owners are all friendly and kind. I’ve especially enjoyed hearing the legendary owner’s stories about shaping surfboards by hand. If you’re dreaming of the ocean in Miyazaki, I’d highly recommend staying here if you surf.

Waking up early here is worth it: a short walk gives you a lovely sunrise over Nichinan. The recommended Gion Shrine is nearby, and Udo Shrine is only a little farther away. Rooms can be booked for one person, which is handy, and the price is affordable. The Wi-Fi was weak during my stay, though that might depend on which room you get.

We had a lovely family trip and would happily come back. The owner handles both the surfing shop and the inn himself, so he stays busy, but he was always kind and ready to help. We were two adults, two kids, and two dogs, and took one of the dogs for a walk on the nearby beach. The ocean views, with rows of tetrapods, were so beautiful I could keep looking at them. Our room-only stay worked out perfectly. The shared toilets and showers were very clean. The refrigerator and microwave are shared too, and guests can use them whenever they like. Parking is right outside, and on the first floor it's easy to load or unload the car through the window. There's a table and chairs outside the room, where it seems you can eat using a gas stove. Stoves aren't allowed inside the rooms because of fire regulations, which I suppose can't be helped. There's free Wi-Fi. We didn't try the delivery service, but apparently you can order things like okonomiyaki. I also noticed a coin laundry a few minutes away on our way back. I missed the inn's double-decker washing machine while we were there! The views over the Hyuga Nada Sea from nearby Nango Roadside Station and Phoenix Roadside Station are stunning.

We had a large dog with us, and the owner was so helpful, sharing tips about good places to eat and the sea. Our room felt like a studio apartment. We could borrow space in the shared refrigerator and freezer, and there's a covered deck right outside the front door. Even when it rained, we could boil water on our portable stove and have coffee outside. It was a comfortable setup for a longer stay.
