Hotel Italiaken

The temperature ruined the stay for us. Our room was set to 26°C, and the hotel only controls air conditioning seasonally, so there was no way to switch it on. We found this out from a small notice in the room, not when booking or in the confirmation email. It was hot and stuffy enough that neither of us slept well, even though a portable AC/fan unit was provided when we asked. We appreciated that, but it was loud and barely helped. We had chosen this place hoping to rest well during our honeymoon after weeks of traveling around Japan in a campervan, so it was a real letdown. For what we paid, that lack of clear information felt misleading, and temperature control should be a basic expectation at a hotel marketed as upscale. The room was clean and fine, and breakfast was good. There was also a noticeable smell in the room and hallway. Other reviews called it a “curry” smell, but I thought it was more like strong old-style perfume, which I found unpleasant, though it didn’t bother my husband as much. We felt judged as soon as we arrived because we weren’t dressed up. The woman at check-in was kind, but an older male staff member ignored us even though he wasn’t busy, and it made the place feel unwelcoming from the start. The one good thing we found was a great nearby restaurant, but that had nothing to do with the hotel. I regret choosing this place and wouldn’t stay again.
