Hotel Harumoto

Loved the bath house. Toshogu shrine and some nice local restaurants are just a short walk away.

The building is old and many of the staff are elderly, but the service was polite and the hospitality felt calm and relaxing. Dinner included fried monkfish, which was delicious. Most of the guests seemed to be Japanese, maybe by coincidence, and I found it quiet and comfortable. I’d been looking at pricier places too, but I’m glad I picked this one. There was also free self-serve coffee and tea in the cafe corner, which was nice (^^). I stayed the night before visiting Nikko Toshogu Shrine the next morning.

The guest rooms have been updated inside, even though the building itself is old. The veranda was removed during the renovation, though, and I woke up in the night because it was cold by the window. The bath and washing area were cold too. Since the dining room is in another building, you have to go outdoors to get there, which is a bit of a hassle. The location is convenient for visiting Nikko’s two shrines and one temple.
