The onsen was great, especially the cold pool, which let me cool off and soak for longer. The hotel itself is lovely. Breakfast and dinner were a wonderful experience, with plenty of food that was beautifully presented and delicious.

I’ve stayed here twice, once for a special proposal and again for our anniversary, so this place means a lot to me. It’s a secluded spot that works well for a weekend getaway. The gentleman’s outdoor bath overlooks a remote valley and two bridges, and it’s especially nice on a clear day or night, or while snow is falling. Our room was cosy and relaxing, though a little dated and showing some wear. We had a private dining room, and the food made with local ingredients was excellent. Our waitress seemed spread very thin and tired. I hope they can hire more staff.

The main downside is that the hotel is a bit old, though the rooms are nice, clean, and comfortable. The outdoor hot springs are in a valley with occasional trains passing from one mountain tunnel to another, especially beautiful at night. There’s very little light pollution, so you can see stars you’d never see in a city. The location is great. Supper and breakfast were wonderful. Breakfast includes a small buffet, but the prepared meal was so good I probably wouldn’t need it. The dry sauna was just right at 92C, with a lukewarm bath and a cold one nearby for cooling down. It’s a nice hot spring stay despite its age.

A reasonably priced ryokan with very nicely prepared meals and pleasant onsen baths.

Onsen and trout fishing, both great.
