Little Forest Inn Nikko

Waking up to the lake view, with Mt Nantai right behind us, was stunning. The trailhead was just 400m away, and the restaurants were all about a five-minute walk. We also saw lots of monkeys around at sundown, crossing the roads and streets nearby. They were cute and totally harmless. The place was warm, clean, and had gorgeous views. The owners were friendly, the location was perfect, and it was super affordable. Such a lovely little hotel for our Nikko stay. We’d definitely come back.

Our corner room had an amazing view of Chuzenji Lake, and my favorite detail was the platform by the window. The inn also leaves tea and coffee options in the hallway. It’s a small, cozy place, and our room was clean and warm with comfy beds and all the amenities.

The inn sits near Lake Chuzenji, with forests and mountains all around. It’s a peaceful base for the quiet side of Nikko, with access to Kegon Falls, Chuzenji Temple, Nikko National Park, hiking, and time by the lake. If you want to explore freely, public transport may take planning, and renting a car is more convenient. Rooms are simple, clean, and comfortable, with natural wood touches; some look out over the lake or forest, especially lovely when the leaves change in autumn. The atmosphere is rustic and homey. Breakfast is often included, carefully prepared as a Japanese or Western set, fresh and filling. The owners are very kind and welcoming, and happy to offer tips on places to visit and getting around. Little Forest Inn Nikko is a cozy nature retreat after a day exploring Nikko’s shrines and scenery.

The staff were friendly and suggested places to eat and get breakfast. The location works well for visiting Kegon Fall, Senjougahara, Chuzenji Lake, and other tourist spots, so I’d generally recommend staying here. You need to leave your shoes at the entrance to protect the structure. I gave it four stars because the walls are thin enough that you may hear other guests, and the toilets aren’t as tech as ones in Tokyo, though they’re okay.
