The food was a highlight for me, with lots of different dishes and a taste of rural cooking. I've stayed at a few ryokans, and this was one of my favorites for meals. I was there for one night in late March 2025, after booking two weeks ahead. I wanted a local ryokan with an onsen, and this was one of the few that accepted solo travelers. The place is rustic and shows its age, but I'd happily recommend it to friends looking for a cozy stay. An older couple runs the day to day operation. My room was a little small, though more than enough for me. There are two separate baths, available first come, first served. With only a few guests around, they were usually set aside for men and women, but people who arrive early enough can reserve one for themselves. The owner doesn't speak much English, but we still managed a four-hour conversation using Google Translate. If you're looking to see Japan beyond the cities, I'd encourage you to stay here.

The hotel is about a 20-minute walk from the nearest station, which was the one small downside. Otherwise, we had a perfect stay. The private onsens on the property were lovely after a long day out. The room was very spacious, and I enjoyed sleeping on tatami for the first time. A heater kept it warm, and room service came daily to replace our towels and refill the hot water. The family's restaurant is less than 100 meters away. We ate there on both nights and especially liked the super fresh grilled butter squid and stir-fried offal. It was an easy, warm, home-style Japanese dinner.

The food tasted delicious and natural, like a lot of care had gone into making it. The owner was kind and ready to help even though we don't speak Japanese. I felt totally relaxed after a soak, especially in the outdoor hot spring. I'd recommend staying here to enjoy a real Japanese-style experience, and I'd come back if I get the chance to visit Japan again.
