Petit Hotel C'Est Bon

We had a roomy twin room, and you can book the open-air bath by the hour. Both breakfast and dinner are French course meals. The owner is very friendly and seems to cook everything himself, and the quality is incredible. I wonder why this place has so few reviews. Nikko Toshogu Shrine and Kegon Falls are close by. I’d recommend it if you have a car.

The owner-chef makes all the food and desserts at Petit Hotel C'est Bon. At dinner, my mother and I each chose a different main, one meat and one fish, and both were delicious. Afterward, there was a homemade dessert selection with 12 to 14 kinds to choose from, and you could have up to nine. Breakfast, also made by the chef, was very generous. The chef and his wife were incredibly kind, and the whole stay felt relaxing.

The room was undeniably dated, and there’s no refrigerator. Only one room is equipped with a shower room. There’s an open-air bath and a public bath. The public bath’s silk bath was lukewarm, though it somehow seemed to help. Dogs are allowed, but they sometimes bark and get quite noisy. The owners were very kind, and the food was delicious, especially the rich corn potage. You can pick meat or fish, with a 550 yen upgrade to Tochigi Wagyu steak. I didn’t find the Tochigi Wagyu particularly impressive. Bread with butter was great too. For dessert, you can choose two or three and get up to three refills. I forgot to take a photo. Breakfast was delicious as well. The entrance in the last photo isn’t the main one. It can be hard to find, especially at night when you can’t see the arrow on the reception desk.

The dinner was absolutely delicious, and the homemade dessert platter, with more than 10 choices, was so good I wanted to take some home. The meal included smoked duck, shrimp and kiwi salad, corn potage, rainbow trout and scallops, beef fillet, and dessert. I personally didn’t care for the rainbow trout. I appreciate the local Nikko produce, but I preferred the sea bass. We brought our dog, though dogs aren’t allowed in the dining area. The facilities are old and there’s no dog run, but the meals were excellent. I’d recommend this inn if you want to travel with your dog and enjoy good food at a reasonable price.
