I only stopped in for lunch, but the coconut curry was so good I ended up staying the night. In the morning, the ocean to the east made for a beautiful sunrise, and Mieko’s breakfast was so tasty I forgot to take a photo until I’d finished. Ask for Pie if you’re interested in SUP or surf lessons. He speaks excellent English. In summer, there’s also a BBQ with Nomi Hodai for under ¥4,000. A nice spot to spend time in, in summer or any season.

The staff were sweet and made us breakfast, and it was lovely soaking in the jacuzzi with the ocean in view. We had rain and clouds during our relaxing Tanegashima trip, which was a shame.

The breakfast was much better than I expected. The first-floor room itself was quite clean and tidy, though you can’t step out onto the balcony, and people outside can see in if you leave the curtains open. I also noticed some dead insects in the balcony gaps, which felt a little odd. There was more BBQ food than the three of us could manage. Since none of us drink alcohol, the plan seemed a bit expensive, and I wish there’d been other BBQ choices.

The food was absolutely delicious, and every staff member was wonderful. The building and rooms were very clean, too. Zeus is close to lots of beaches and surfing spots, with plenty of sea activities such as surfing, jet boarding, and snorkeling. It’s still being developed, so there’s more to come. For a stay in Tanegashima, I can’t think of a better inn.
