Ryokan Mitsukejimaso

The food was amazing. I loved our stay, especially seeing the kids play ping pong with the landlady. She put their picture up on her wall alongside famous actors.

That boat ride was unforgettable. We took the scheduled sightseeing bus and boat, and the cliffs looked spectacular from the water. The boat was running through the end of October, so I caught it on October 30th. It was canceled the next day, making that effectively the last day of the 2025 fiscal year. The ryokan was a great place to end my first trip to Nishinoshima. Dinner and breakfast both had lots of choices and tasted great. The bathroom was a decent size, and the hot spring had a pleasant salty taste, probably because it’s right by the ocean. Beppu Port is only a few minutes away on foot. I’d definitely stay here again if I get the chance. (Stayed on October 30th, 2025)

I stayed in August 2024, paying 14,850 yen for a night with two meals. The room was clean, and the food was delicious, especially the big, tasty oysters. I enjoyed chatting with the landlady, who seems to be friends with celebrity Tanaka Misako. She also booked a snack bar for our after-party and drove me there. It was my first visit to Nishinoshima, and I was glad the landlady explained the island in detail. She seems able to hold her liquor and is a pretty entertaining person. She’s quite strict about bathing and dining etiquette, but I still found her interesting.
