Kirakankou Hotel

Seriously, stay away. The room was filthy and chaotic, with a musty smell everywhere and no electrical outlets. No Wi-Fi either. Avoid this place and get your money back!!!

This place feels abandoned, and the food is terrible. It used to be a good hotel when a Japanese person ran it. Now, it’s run by a Vietnamese person, and the Vietnamese staff can’t speak Japanese. It’s not a hotel for Japanese people to visit. The ropeway up to the hot springs is in disrepair, too.

The food was a highlight for us. The spiny lobster and scallops were delicious, the kids enjoyed the meal, and the freshly fried tempura they brought us was especially good. Our third-floor corner room had lots of light and a lovely view, though it was a shame to see a few fingerprints on the glass. The bathroom was very clean and the shower had good pressure. We came to swim at Kira Waikiki Beach, have dinner, and enjoy the hot springs. It was handy that we could change into our swimsuits in the bathroom before check-in, and we were allowed to use it again after checkout. The beach is only about 40 meters away, but getting there means a steep uphill walk and stairs. After being in the ocean, that climb felt like a workout. It seemed far, but actually took just 5-10 minutes. (^_^;)

I was horrified to find a dead centipede at the bottom of the open-air bath while bathing with my two-year-old. There were so many insects floating in the indoor bath that we couldn’t use it. The place didn’t feel hygienic, and there seemed to be plenty of things they could improve. The food arrived cold, so I honestly don’t understand the reviews calling it delicious. Mr. Nakai may be a kind person, but he doesn’t seem to have the professionalism needed to serve good food. To put it gently, the atmosphere feels stuck in the early Showa era. Mr. Nakai told me that many accommodations in the area may be doing well thanks to Toyota, and I suspect that’s the case. Keep that in mind if you come. P.S. I visited on a weekday, and most of the tourists I saw were Chinese.
