The staff were exceptionally friendly and professional, and made us feel welcome. Our room was clean and had a lovely traditional feel. The onsen was relaxing, and the Wi-Fi worked perfectly throughout our visit. The building is a little old and could use renovation to bring it up to date. Even so, it still has plenty of charm and a warm, genuine atmosphere. With some updates it could shine even more.

After a long day walking, the large onsen was a good place to unwind. The hotel’s transport took us the short distance to Omata, where we started hiking up Mount Obako on the Kohechi route, part of the Kumano Kodo, and picked us up again on our return. I think this is the only hotel close by, so it’s a convenient base, especially if you’re hiking. The food was traditional Japanese, and the service was attentive.

The hotel has an old-fashioned feel, but the onsen and delicious kaiseki dinner made it worth stopping here while walking the kumano kid Koheeci.

The location is a little tricky, but it’s fine. Staff were fantastic and very welcoming, and this feels like an otentic japanese style hotel. The Onsan was very good, with windows looking into the wood. Breakfast was really good too.

The river view is excellent, and it’s quiet here in the middle of Wakayama. The food was good, though the portions were small, so bring some snacks or dry food from a supermarket before you arrive. The hotel grounds and rooms feel dated and could use better maintenance.
