The innkeeper was kind and helpful, and having an on-site onsen was handy on nights when we didn’t feel like visiting the lovely public baths around town. We stayed three nights, and the central location also put us right on the route to the ski slopes. Our room had a big balcony where we could hear rushing water, plus enough space for a small family. Its detailed design made it feel especially beautiful. My sister and I were so glad we chose this place. It’s a charming option for couples, friends, or families, and we really appreciated our time there.

We loved the peaceful feel and cultural experience here. The family room was spacious, the tatami mats were comfortable, and breakfast had enough variety for our dietary needs. The private onsen was a nice extra and was often empty. Yu Road is close by for getting to the slopes, with plenty of food and drink places nearby too. As two foreigners, we found the staff kind and accommodating, and any language gaps were easy to work through. A great authentic stay in Nozawa Onsen.

Breakfast and dinner were both delicious, with compliments to the chef. There’s also a washing machine guests can use. Our room had its own toilet and bath, and we could use the downstairs onsen as well. The water comes from the public onsen next door and was boiling hot, but adding cold water sorted that out. The staff were wonderful and hospitable, and the owners have done a great job caring for this very old Ryokan. Yu-Road is very close, though it’s uphill. Be aware the stairs are extremely steep and there’s no elevator, so it may not suit someone with bad knees. Thank you for having us. Arigatougozaimashita.

My husband and I took an early walk around the village and enjoyed the beautiful autumn scenery. The inn is beside the popular Oyu Hot Spring and market. Villagers carry the spring water back to their homes, and it gets so hot that only locals can take a true onsen bath. At Oyu Hot Spring, the ladies showed me how to bathe and let me use the spot with a cold-water tap.
