The location is a big plus for Nagasaka Gondola, and it felt like good value. We stayed at Pure Nagasaka for 6 nights in Nozawa Onsen. We arrived before the 1pm check-in and were allowed into our room early. It was spacious and traditionally Japanese. Three of us slept on futons, and we all used the extra futon and bedding provided for each person. Breakfast was included, though we only tried it once. The owners asked each day whether we wanted it, with traditional or Western options. There was a small table in the room, and they brought hot water and green tea daily. We were on the third floor. Each level had a toilet block with two women’s and two men’s toilets, plus three shared basins. The traditional Onsen-style baths were in the basement by the drying rooms. Most mornings the water heating wasn’t on, and we had to ask management a few times to turn it on so we could shower hot. The main Nagasaka Gondola was a 200m walk, slightly uphill. The town’s Main Street was about a 10minute stroll downhill, a nice direction for tired legs after skiing. Management were friendly and tried hard despite speaking little English. There was plenty of space for ski and board gear. If you want traditional Japanese living, simple clean rooms and walking distance to the gondola, this could suit you. I wouldn’t recommend it if you want a private bathroom or Western-style living.
