Farm Garden Hotel

Getting there takes a little effort since the inn is tucked deep in the mountains, so it’s a good idea to bring food and drinks with you. Once there, it’s a lovely spot to relax in nature, with a warm, homey feel from the married couple who run it. The former love hotel has a surreal, nostalgic look, especially when you wake up in the morning. The DIY touches are impressive, and everything feels carefully kept and clean. The shower pressure is incredibly strong and refreshing, and sauna fans will appreciate the facilities. There’s an outdoor BBQ setup with a gas stove for now. A bonfire would make it even more special.

The owners, a husband and wife, were so kind to us and our dog, and even helped with our luggage. Our dog had a great time running around in the dog run. There are chickens that are apparently five months old and have only recently started laying eggs, so maybe we’ll get to try their eggs at breakfast next time. We stayed for two nights at this reasonably priced pet-friendly place near Numazu. The room was spacious, as you’d expect from a former love hotel, and though it was old, it was clean. We booked room only for the first night and two meals for the second, which meant we couldn’t keep the same room both nights. We thought dinner would be BBQ, but from November it’s shabu-shabu, served in a stylish dining room. We were the only customers, and luckily they let us bring the dog in. The Shizuoka-style oden, three homemade sauces, pork, beef, lots of vegetables, and rice porridge were all tasty and filling. The beer was complimentary too. Breakfast was excellent, with carefully made homemade sides, pickles, and a raw egg. It was all so good that we wanted more rice. You can walk the dog around the hotel, but that means going onto the road, which can be risky when traffic is heavy. Next time we’d like to try the BBQ and sauna during fireworks season. We’d definitely stay again.

We brought our beloved dog along for a birthday trip for my wife, and had a really nice time. The mountain air was lovely, and the sea was only a few minutes away by car. The welcome and service were warm, and the seasonal shabu-shabu was excellent. We also enjoyed the spacious baths, and our dog got to run around in the dog run. The hotel is still being renovated, so I’m excited to see how it develops. I’d like to come back.

The homemade dog run was private, and behind the hotel we found the remains of an old road tunnel with lots of crayfish. We were traveling with two dogs, and since this place doesn’t require vaccinations, it was our first stay here. Everyone on staff was friendly. Dinner was BBQ, and the marmalade-marinated meat was amazing. They gave us a complimentary beer to welcome us, and the chorizo at breakfast was delicious. There’s not much around, and the rooms are a bit flashy, which makes sense since it used to be a love hotel.
