Sugar Beach Oarai

Such a wonderful stay.

Our dog had a great time running around off leash inside the fenced area, and we loved being right by the ocean. The room was cute and spotless, which got me excited as soon as we arrived. The BBQ instructions were easy to follow, and they clearly explained the breakfast and dinner food and tableware. Free drinks were a nice touch, especially the fruity, delicious draft beer. I rarely leave reviews, but this place was so good I had to write one. It felt like a shame to spend the night sleeping, and I really didn't want to go home. I'd love to come back!

The campfire overlooking the water was such a treat, and we could eat whenever we wanted. It really feels like your own private beach, with the sea just steps away. The interior is thoughtfully put together down to the little details, and the appliances are all modern. Renting an electric-assisted bicycle to explore Oarai was refreshing and fun.

We stayed in late August, two adults and two kids. We’d looked at other glamping places nearby, but this was the only one right by the ocean, and its cute design won us over. We could park before check-in, which was handy. The kids loved all the outdoor time. We played in the sea before checking in, set off fireworks on the beach at night, then went back into the water after checkout. My daughter and my mom were also thrilled by how adorable the rooms and facilities were. It felt like a little resort getaway without leaving the Kanto region. Everything was included, even alcohol. The kids were delighted by the free snacks, like rusks and popcorn, and the shaved ice. The BBQ was easy to manage in an air-conditioned room, which worked well with small children. With older kids, though, I’d have preferred grilling while looking out at the sea. The BBQ ingredients were already in the fridge with simple instructions. We just heated the aquapazza and curry and grilled the meat. Cutting the vegetables was a bit of a chore, so pre-cut ones would’ve made it easier. We worried the food wouldn’t be enough and ordered an extra beach BBQ set for two, but it was too much for us. The toilets, showers, and BBQ house were close to the tents, so we mostly stayed nearby and only went out for drinks. At night, the gas bonfire made a lovely atmosphere. The kit included s’mores, which we roasted over it. The fireworks on the beach right in front were amazing. At a regular hotel you’d have to go elsewhere to see them, but here the beach was right there. The adults enjoyed having drinks and relaxing too. I also made myself get up early after seeing the sunrise time posted at reception. Watching the sun come up over the horizon was beautiful. There were rental carts, sandbox toys, and indoor playthings available, though we didn’t borrow any. We did make bath salts with the kids and took them home as souvenirs. Check-in, drinks, snacks, BBQ, and bath salt making were all self-service, so we hardly saw staff. Since it’s basically an extension of camping, it may not suit someone looking for hotel-style service. Our family was very happy and would gladly return. Seems like a fun choice for couples or a girls’ trip too.
