Even the nearby village feels like a nice place to slow down. Sitting outside at night was peaceful, with nature as the only sound. There's a small soba kitchen up in the hills, though it's only open in the daytime. Restaurants in the nearest town are a 3-4 minute drive north, and the two 24/7 shops there, Lawson Station and Family Mart, are well stocked with what you might need. The home keeps its traditional Japanese style while adding modern comforts. The futons were comfortable and warm enough for winter, and huge, which worked well for kids who like to spread out. The bathroom has a Japanese-style shower and a big onsen-style tub for soaking at day's end. The kitchenette has what you need, too. We had an amazing stay and would come back. One thing to know: bring earplugs if you don't want to be woken at 7am by the community loudspeaker. It goes off again at 6pm. Google community announcements and loudspeakers in Japan if you'd like to understand more.

It's a gorgeous villa, restored beautifully and with a lot of care. But it felt very haunted to us. Even after praying over it, we couldn't make ourselves stay the night, so we left without touching anything.

A top-quality villa, with the best bathroom ever and lovely surroundings.

This is a small village at the northern end of Okinawa, and the drive to the guesthouse follows beautiful coastline. The place sits close to the beach, with stars overhead at night, and it felt like a hidden retreat without tourist crowds. It's an old traditional house that's been renovated, with a high ceiling and an open interior without partitions, so the space feels airy rather than oppressive. The layout is excellent, and the dried flower arrangement adds a lovely touch. You can also take a bath. The one thing missing was condiments. It's a great fit if you like quiet, but the setting is very rural, so it may not suit someone who wants everything close at hand.

Butterflies, dragonflies, and all sorts of other creatures were everywhere around the area, alongside the ocean, waterfalls, and Bashofu Museum. We got to enjoy both nature and culture. The accommodation is a traditional Okinawan house with a red-tiled roof, though inside it feels modern and stylish. The beds were huge, apparently four semi-double beds, so we could spread out and relax. The bath was spacious enough for our children to enjoy too.
