The staff were the strongest part of my stay at Isuzhi Grand. Everyone, from reception to the kitchen, was top notch. I arrived too late for dinner with a store-bought bento and asked about a guest microwave. The front desk hurried it to the dining room while cleanup was underway, and kitchen staff took it back and returned it a few minutes later, though it wasn't piping hot. After a 42 kilometer hike, the breakfast buffet was a welcome sight: one of the best hotel breakfasts I've had in Japan, with a huge selection, solid quality, and regular refills. I also enjoyed the bath, which was very clean and had an appealing modern Japanese style unlike any I'd seen. I had it to myself on a Monday around 9:30. There was no internet anywhere in the hotel, which seemed strange for such a nice place. And there wasn't anywhere nearby to buy beer. There were plenty of coin-operated machines, but none stocked it. Still, 6500 yen for a modern, clean single room and that excellent breakfast is a good deal. You could do much worse.
