Kaneishi Ryokan

I only wish we’d stayed longer than one night. It’s very quiet around the inn, and we actually preferred it to kurokawa onsen, which felt extremely busy and touristy, with very expensive hotels and ryokans. All the rooms face the river stream, so it feels cosy, especially with the window open at night as you fall asleep to the sound of the water. One of the best ryokans I’ve stayed in, if not the best.

The place felt almost secluded during our two-night stay. It seemed our group might have been the only guests, and there were few tourists around Chirip Onsen. That made for a quiet, restorative visit. I was impressed by the stream sounds, the hot spring steam, and the view from my room. They even gave us eggs to cook in the onsen steam. I don’t speak Japanese, but the staff were very helpful and friendly. I was happy with the view, facilities, and hot springs. I hadn’t asked for breakfast, but they accepted my request at check-in and gave it to me for free. I hope this accommodation and Chirip Onsen Village continue to do well.

Our rooms had a lovely view straight out to the Tsuetate River, and the food was a real treat. Both breakfast and dinner tasted refined but gentle, and the presentation was beautiful. The eel dinner was especially good, with fluffy, tender eel and horse sashimi. I was very satisfied with the generous, luxurious meal. The inn has been renovated, so everything inside felt new, clean, easy to use, and comfortable. The beds were fluffy, and the rooms had all we needed, with thoughtful details throughout. We could soak in both the large public bath and our room’s bath, so it was a proper bath-filled trip. The staff were warm and kind, and they’ve made me a big fan of Tsuetate Onsen. I’ll definitely be back.

I loved the suite, especially the bathroom in the room.
