This felt more like a hostel than a hotel. The place is clean, nicely designed, and well located, but the service was a problem. I arrived at 2:15 pm and pressed the call button over and over as instructed, but nobody came to reception. I couldn't leave my luggage, so I had to wait until check-in at 5:00 pm.

It's a manga cafe, plain and simple, not a hotel. Another guest snored loudly all night, and even with headphones turned all the way up I could still hear him. I couldn't get proper rest. I'd only consider staying here if saving money matters more than sleep.

The location is hard to beat, right across from the station and beside a 7-Eleven. You can read manga for free, have free drinks, use a full-sized computer, and relax in the cafe with a view. Those are nice extras that regular hotels don't offer. Still, despite the name "Tabist Hotel," this is really an internet cafe with capsule-style beds. The cafe and showers are shared, and rooms are separated by walls and curtains, so you can hear other guests. I expected a private room. Check-in is strictly at 5:00 PM, and there isn't anyone at the desk before then, so you can't leave your bags while you wait.

The room TVs have XXX videos available for free, though the picture quality wasn't great, so maybe they were older titles. I slept well without earplugs because everyone was quiet during my stay. It's much more comfortable than an internet cafe, and the location is handy, right in front of Oita Station with a convenience store just outside the first-floor entrance. Soft drinks are all-you-can-drink. There are no staff at night, which could feel a little worrying.

The main frustration is that you can't lock your room door 😓. There is a safe for valuables, but I still kept thinking it'd be nice to lock the door itself. It's close to the station, with unlimited manga and all-you-can-drink juice. If you can't find another place near Oita Station, I understand choosing it as the only option. But if you have time to book elsewhere, I'd look around (^◇^;).
