I booked a room for two nights for one person, Friday 4th October, because I had a ticket for an event near the hotel. The receipt clearly showed nights 4/10&5/10 and check out on the 6th. Still, around 11am, after I'd put the do not disturb sign up early, the phone rang. I ignored it, then half an hour later someone knocked and told me to leave, claiming I'd only paid for one night. I showed him the paperwork and pointed out what I'd booked. Another staff member then said I had to go because the room was booked. I said it was booked by me and showed them the receipt again. Absolute nonsense. Both staff members chased me out of the hotel. The guy at reception had been kind and helped with my very limited Japanese, speaking in both English and Japanese. The room was a bit grubby, though generally clean. The receipt also had the room-cleaning part crossed out.

The price and location were great, with lots of things easy to reach, especially the train station. The staff were friendly, too.
I chose this place because Sunday stays are very cheap, and it's within walking distance of Okayama Station. The room was tiny, with a small desk and a water tap or mini-kitchen just inside on the right. It felt like they'd bought a dormitory for single men and renovated it. There was no Wi-Fi. The front desk gave me a physical key, which was hard to turn. I'd been looking forward to the set meal-style breakfast other people mentioned, but I got curry instead. It was free, so that's fine, but I wish I'd had the set meal breakfast.
This is a retro Showa-era building. The room has no Wi-Fi, as clearly stated, so you'll need to bring your own connection. There's no wired internet either. Breakfast is served as a set meal and feels like a light snack at a coffee shop. The room door slams loudly when it shuts.
I slept soundly on clean, comfortable sheets, and the building was very quiet outside on the day I stayed. Breakfast was delicious, with rice, miso soup, salad, and side dishes. It had the comforting feel of an old-fashioned merchant's inn. The hotel is old, but the room was surprisingly spacious compared with newer business hotels where there's barely room to walk. I could do radio calisthenics in the morning without jumping or hitting the wall as I moved my arms. The unit bath could use replacing soon, but the shower stayed warm and there was plenty of hot water, so I had no complaints. Towels, face towels, bath towels, and a bath mat were provided, and the amenities were available at the front desk. There's no Wi-Fi. I find that reassuring, since it could be dangerous for a manager without security knowledge to simply turn it on without knowing what to do. At another hotel, I once saw other people's computers, so I don't think this is a bad decision. There are lots of complaints in the reviews, but for the price I have no complaints at all. I was very comfortable overall.
