The rooms have been recently renovated and look gorgeous. From our window we could see the castle, and it made us want to stay another day. The hotel sits along the Asahi River, a pleasant five-minute walk from Korakuen Garden and Crow Castle. There's a 7-11 a block away, and Bar Boccone, a fabulous Italian restaurant, is about eight minutes away across the bridge. I'd highly recommend both the hotel and the city.

The rooms are large and clean, and although the hotel is old, it's in good shape. It's close to the main attraction, the park. Being able to open the window mattered to us.

The staff were exceptionally helpful, kind, and welcoming, which is what kept this at two stars. The bright, updated lobby gave a misleading impression, since the rest of the property is dated, with mold on the ceilings, peeling wallpaper, and stains on the room floors and walls. I wouldn't bother with the breakfast personally, as it wasn't worth 1500Y. On the second day I found out orders had to be in by 9:30am, despite the posted 10am cutoff. They refused service, then kindly fixed the issue. During spring, don't count on the A.C. working. They suggest opening a window. The room was hot, but I managed to sleep. I wouldn't come back.

The atmosphere is really lovely, and everything was clean. The room was quite large, and the breakfast was nice. There's also a great view.

It's a large hotel for the local area, with quality service and at least two restaurants inside. The restaurant on the ninth floor has a nice view of Okayama Castle.
