Okazaki Single Hotel

The rooms have been renovated fairly recently, and I liked that the large public bath is available anytime. Okazaki Castle is very close, so the morning walks were lovely. The building and facilities are undeniably old, though. I stayed for work, and it’s about a 10-minute walk from Higashi-Okazaki Station. I wouldn’t call it especially suited to families or couples, but for a business trip when you just need somewhere to sleep and rest, it’s fine.

Good value, with Wi-Fi, a large public bath, and a compact room. Payment is cash only. If you arrive early, parking is free.

There’s a nice charm to having the castle right in front. The room was very clean, though it still had a retro Heisei-era feel. I found water backing up from the drain while showering. There aren’t any outlets by the bed, and an extension cord would help, especially since there’s no bedside light switch. The pillow was hard. You need to insert a key to use the outlets. The walk from the station is about 10 minutes, and the brick road in front of it makes heavy suitcases a bad idea. I wish check-in started at 3:00 PM rather than 4:00 PM. When I tried to leave my luggage, nobody was at the front desk, though I could wait in the lounge. You can get a “no cleaning required” sign at reception, and there are both free and paid drinks in the lounge.

The air conditioning was already on when I checked in, which was great in the summer, and the room was well cleaned ⭕️. It’s an old place, but good and inexpensive for the location, with just the basic facilities. The air conditioner is a bit noisy 💦. It worked well for a quick solo stay, and I’d like to come back.
