The owners are exceedingly pleasant, and the light, breezy air makes the place feel cozy and comfortable. With its gothic styling and furnishings against the backdrop of a former hospital, Hotel Shalala feels dramatic and unlike anywhere else I’ve stayed. It’s been a few months, but I still think fondly of the visit now and then. I loved it and hope I can return to Okinawa one day. Next time, I’ll bring a car!

There are no elevators. The rooms are spacious and clean, and soft, elegant music in the hallways adds to the atmosphere. The exterior and interior have a beautiful European vintage feel. It didn’t seem very busy, so please stop by and support this underrated hotel.

The owner was very nice and helpful, and the petite lady working mornings was an absolute ray of sunshine. She’ll start your day with a smile. Our room was really large and comfortable, with good hot water and a good shower. It’s a unique stay in a converted hospital, conveniently located, and I’d come back.

The rooms are clean and spacious, and the staff are super friendly and helpful. They even gave us little gifts when we left. I love this hotel and would recommend it to anyone visiting Okinawa!

I was a stranger in Okinawa City and couldn’t decide how to get to my destination. The staff helped us a lot by explaining the way and driving us to the station, among other things. It was a really, really wonderful stay!
