What upset us most was how the check-in conversation was handled. When we mentioned Japanese law and asked about calling the police to confirm the requirements, the staff member brushed us off, saying the station was next door and that he had legal documents on his phone. We felt the response was rude and arrogant throughout. We had booked a room at AB Hotel Omihachiman through Ctrip on November 9, 2024, after missing the last JR train, with plans to leave on November 10. At check-in, staff asked us for passports. We explained that, as foreign residents living long-term in Japan, we were not required by law to show a passport or residence card. I offered my residence card, but my companion didn't have hers with her. The staff member still refused to check us in and insisted that without a passport or residence card, we couldn't stay, despite our repeated explanation of the rules. There was also confusion over the booking. We had reserved a double bed room, thinking it could fit two people. When we asked about switching to a room for two and paying extra, we were told there were no rooms available. After we requested a refund, the staff member changed his answer and said we could both stay in the same room for an extra 3,000 yen. That inconsistency made the whole thing even more disappointing. This was a very unpleasant experience for foreigners, and it completely damaged our trust in the hotel's service. I can't recommend it.

I walked in at the last minute and asked if they had a room, and the staff were really nice and found me one at a good price. Breakfast was included, and there was a spa too, though I didn't get to use it. This is my favorite city I visited in Japan. I'd stay here again.

The hotel is clean, the nearby facilities are good, and most of the staff are very kind. My concern is that women in their 40s or 50s working in the morning tend to treat foreigners with discrimination, including overbearing comments and actions. Apart from that, it's a very nice hotel.

The room was extremely, really extremely small, and the double bed was just as tiny. That's the main downside. Otherwise, the staff were very friendly, especially the young Brazil-Japanese woman at reception who speaks several languages. The hotel seems new and is well maintained, with a nice public bath and a good breakfast.

The room was very cozy and clean, and being right by Omihachiman station is handy. The dining room is a little small, but breakfast there was still good.
