I was surprised by how many women were staying the night, since Hamayoshi seems aimed at men who love the sea. It’s right by the fishing port, and has the feel of a classic guys’ trip, with few amenities and the focus on good food, sake, and hot springs. Each serving came with a huge amount of fresh sashimi, plus simmered dishes and a main course. The broth for the main was incredibly good. The bath uses the black water found around the outer Boso Peninsula. Its color lingers in the tub and can make it look a little dirty, but the unusual color and feel of the water are lovely.

Dinner was so good and the portions so generous that my wife and I joked we’d gotten a free stay with our meal. 😆 The seaside hotel was peaceful, with a lovely beach and views of both sunset and sunrise. In the morning we could hear birds singing, along with the waves crashing.

It’s quiet here, away from the main road, and the window looks out over the fishing port and Onjuku Coast. There was plenty of food, just as the reviews said, and it seems like a great place for people who enjoy a drink. I tried a private bath for the first time and liked being able to relax in it alone. I’ll definitely come back! 😍

I loved the place, especially the clean rooms with their guesthouse feel and the food. Dinner was sashimi, grilled pork, and takoyaki. Breakfast was nutritious too, though sadly I couldn’t finish it all…

The seafood meals are the highlight here, and there was almost more than we could eat: simmered golden-eyed snapper, abalone, spiny lobster, and sashimi, along with a delicious mushy stew. The inn is about a five-minute drive from Onjuku Station, with a sandy beach right outside that seems ideal for summer swimming.
