This was my second visit, and I brought my dog both times. I loved the first stay, and this time I used the place for a workcation. It really feels like home, with a comfortable roomy bed, a full kitchen, and a dining table that’s easy to work and eat at. There’s a washer and dryer, too, and the rooms are cute. My child is quick to sniff out any dog smell, so I’m reassured by how well cleaned the place is. It’s right by the ocean, which makes walks pleasant. There are lots of good restaurants, cafes, and bakeries nearby, and Rie sends a list of suggestions. I’ve visited Okinawa many times, but there’s still so much left for me to discover. Staying here has shown me a new way to enjoy the area and its local culture. Two stays haven’t been enough! I feel comfortable because I can talk with the owner, Rie, ahead of time. She’s always glad to share information about Okinawa and nearby shops, and she keeps a nice amount of distance while still helping shape the stay around what I need. For pets, everything we needed was provided. The yachimun pottery bowls are adorable, the garden is fenced all around so my dog can run safely, and there’s a hot shower outside for after time in the ocean. I’ve stayed at several pet-friendly hotels in Okinawa, and this is one of my favorites.

The fenced garden is roomy enough for a barbecue, and you can stay here with a dog, which is a rare treat. There are kayaks to use for free, and you can get into the water right in front of the property. It’s in a quiet part of Onna Village, just a 20-second walk from the sea. The rooms are clean and nicely decorated, and the bathrooms feel spacious and comfortable. Owner Rie is a superhost who greets you warmly and pays attention to details. She can recommend and book restaurants and activities, helping make the trip memorable. Highly recommended!

The beach is only a 30-second walk away, and watching the sunrise there with my dog was an amazing way to start the day. The west coast sunsets were just as beautiful. I added a night to our original 3-day, 2-night stay so I could see one again (lol). We also tried sunset SUP with my dog for the first time and watched a movie in the room. Such a good self-care break, and I think trips like this are especially nice when you need to treat yourself. Our private cottage was a relaxing place to stay during the COVID-19 pandemic. When we opened the door, colorful flowers and fruit trees greeted us, including a lovely plumeria at the entrance. I watched our dog wander through the spacious garden as leaves rustled and a pleasant breeze passed through. The cottage was thoroughly cleaned and disinfected, and the familiar Hakobune surroundings felt like coming home. The owner’s kindness showed in the welcome sweets, which were delicious, and a little message card left out for us. We cooked some meals with supermarket ingredients and ordered takeout for others. Pots and everything else we needed were provided. I especially liked the dishes from a pottery studio near the inn. They were comfortable to hold and easy to use. The claw-foot bathtub looked like something from a movie, and soaking in it washed away the day’s tiredness. I slept soundly in the big bed, woke to birdsong, and stepped outside to watch a beautiful sunrise. Taking deep breaths in the garden made me feel almost like my cells had been renewed. The cottage gave us our own private space without having to meet anyone. I’ll definitely return.

Rie is so kind and happy to help with any questions. There are lovely spots to explore around the area, and renting a car lets you reach the tourist attractions too. This place suited us perfectly for a peaceful, fulfilling trip. The rooms are tastefully furnished, and the bath and bed were incredibly comfortable. We enjoyed the tropical plants in the garden and having a barbecue, then wandered to the quiet beach nearby to play with the little fish. I’d recommend it if you want a warm, calm stay that feels different from a typical resort.
