We’d been cycling late and were having trouble finding somewhere to eat, so we called to say we’d arrive after the check-in deadline. They were lovely about it and let us check in late. The staff were friendly and accommodating throughout, and the futon was really comfortable. The facilities were excellent, with thoughtful details like the tea box, handy lighting, and a tea room that also serves as a balcony and smoking area. I wish we’d stayed longer than one night because the view was gorgeous. I loved this place. The public baths with lemon slices, the tub, and the plum wine are all must-tries.

The seafront setting is great and convenient for the Shimanami Kaido. The proprietors made us feel very welcome, and the food was excellent. A very pleasant stay.

The views are amazing, and after a full day on the bike, the warm bath was just what I needed. The ryokan itself is quite old. The rooms are in much better shape than the common areas, and mine was fine apart from the shower area, which has aged poorly. It didn’t bother me much since I used the bath anyway. The owner tried hard to help despite the language barrier, though his English is limited. I would have appreciated more explanation at dinner about the dishes and what was what. There were English papers posted around the rest of the place, but not in the dining area.

The building and grounds felt rather old, though there isn’t much better choice on the island. The meals were a real highlight. We had very fresh sashimi, crab, sea snail, and pickled squid, followed by stewed fish, tempura, rice, and dessert. Breakfast included fish we grilled ourselves and rice cooked just right. Best part was the coffee afterward.
