Hostel Takeyado

Getting to the train station on foot is convenient, although it’s a bit of a hike with luggage. It’s flat, though, and I managed it. The breakfast buffet wasn’t really worth it to me, with not many choices. The rooms are small, but not as tiny as some I’ve stayed in, and there’s a queen bed with enough room to walk around. Staff were friendly and helpful. They printed over 160 pages for me, charged for the paper and ink, then scanned the signed documents and emailed them back. There’s also laundry on site, though I haven’t seen how the wash and dry cycle turns out yet. My first night was awful because the heater/AC was defective. Whatever I set it to, the room was around 88F (30C). When I explained the problem, I was told to turn it off. About an hour later it got cold, so I turned it back on, then couldn’t sleep because it was too hot again. Maintenance showed me the controls as if I were four and couldn’t tell red from blue or up from down. They set it, said it was “working,” and left. Five minutes later it was 90F. It took another 15 minutes to get them to acknowledge it was faulty, and then I could switch rooms.

The staff were kind and very helpful, answering our questions and arranging luggage forwarding for us. Our room was comfortable and had plenty of space. There are two train stations nearby, and Namba is only about two stops away.

The alley has all the basics nearby, including restaurants and a convenience store. The closest is a 7ELEVEN with an ATM, about 50m away. Getting to the hotel is straightforward: take the Yotsubashi Line toward Tamade station. At Osaka station, you need to walk 5 to 10 minutes inside the metro to reach Nishi Umeda, then it’s about a 10-minute walk from Tamade station.

It’s quiet and peaceful since the hotel isn’t right in the tourist areas, which suited me. Most attractions are about 15-20 minutes away by train, so plan your travel times ahead. The station is only around a three-minute walk away, and there’s a 7-Eleven nearby too. I was really happy with this choice for my solo trip to Japan. The price was reasonable, the staff welcoming and friendly, and my room was a good size, comfortable, clean, and well maintained. I’d recommend it if you’re after an affordable, comfortable, quiet stay in Japan.
