J-Hoppers Osaka Universal - Hostel

The beds are roomy and the facilities were very clean, with a well-organized kitchen. It had a quiet, friendly feel, with solo travelers, families and small groups staying there. Staff were around most of the day, friendly and spoke great English, and check-in and check-out were simple. It’s about a 20-minute walk to Universal, even less to the train station, and the city is easy to reach.

There’s a little kid-friendly area downstairs with toys and sofas, plus a shared fridge and vending machines. They’ll also store your luggage if you arrive early or want to leave it after checkout. The rooms were cute and spacious for the price, with a traditional feel but still clean and modern. Staff were really helpful, and it’s a short ride to USJ. For what you get, the price is hard to beat, and the location worked perfectly for me.

The location was the one bright spot, just one subway stop from Universal Studios Japan (USJ). The stay itself was very disappointing. I woke up itchy after the first night and found a red rash on my back. When I got back to the room the next day, there was a cockroach on the floor and a spider on the bedsheet. That raised serious concerns about hygiene. At around 12350 yen a night, I also had to make up the bed myself and pay an extra 100 yen to rent a towel. Towels and toothbrushes required rental fees, and none of this was clearly explained when I booked. With that budget, you can find a much better room and service in Osaka. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a clean, comfortable stay.

The staff were welcoming and really friendly. My boys and I had such a good time while visiting Osaka that we added another night. When we come back, I’d definitely consider staying here again.
