Hotel&Resort Mashio

A lovely, small boutique resort with fantastic service and a really good breakfast. It’s a great choice for a quiet getaway. I’d be happy to visit again.

I picked Mashio Resort for my birthday, and it was just perfect.

The meals were a real plus, both breakfast and dinner were delicious and satisfying. I was drawn here by the ocean view and peaceful feel I saw online. The room was lovely, with high ceilings that made it feel spacious, and with only three rooms it was nice and quiet. There were two things that disappointed me. The ocean view wasn’t as pictured online, apparently because of the tall trees. I overheard another guest mention it to staff, who said the trees grow back quickly even after being cut. That may be true, but I think the view is something many guests, myself included, look forward to, so it would be good to understand the issue and address it. The other issue was the bathroom. There’s only a shower in the room, so guests have to use the shared bathroom. There’s just one, it isn’t separated by gender, and it needs to be locked from inside. I got locked in there sometimes even after I was ready, and while I was bathing I could hear other guests trying the door, which made it hard to relax.

I booked a stay on Izu Oshima for my girlfriend’s birthday, our first visit to the island. The reservation said pickup was available, but my call to the hotel went to voicemail. It also asked us to make requests by email, so I followed that instruction and wrote to them. More than 24 hours have passed with no reply. I’m worried about our special anniversary. The reviews had given me high hopes, but this has been disappointing from the beginning, and I’m thinking about canceling.
